Become a Sponsoring Company
Waterside firstly identify and agree with a sponsoring company the precise needs they require for their future workforce. We discuss your requirements, specific discipline and what help your company may require to set up a scheme along with the caliber of candidate you require. Apprentices are employed status (The Managed Apprenticeship) for the duration of their apprenticeship and carry out training on the sponsoring company site unless the sponsoring company (The Company Employed Apprenticeship) wish to employ the apprentice directly which is an option.
Apprentice programmes can vary in length, but are typically three or four years long, therefore, there is a commitment to sponsoring an apprentice through their programme. As well as providing the mandatory training, education and assessments, we add all of the soft skills training including; personal development, outdoor development courses, team building, leadership skills and presentation skills to name a few giving a well rounded and highly trained individual.
We look for people with initiative, the right attitude towards work, flexibility, self motivation, have a technical aptitude, a genuine interest in an apprenticeship, the ability to work effectively as a team member, an aptitude for practical work in a demanding and increasingly complex environment, punctual, good timekeeping and attendance and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
For every place there are approximately twelve candidates so competition to become a Waterside apprentice is fierce. Our completion rate is over twice the national average around 80 %, and the majority of apprentices who have completed their apprenticeship have transferred into full employment with their sponsoring company.
We match the right candidates with the right sponsoring companies as we:
- Identify the skills you need by initial assessment of candidates in relation to the sponsoring company requirements
- Advertise our vacancies via a number of methods, local press, media methods, Website, National Apprenticeship Service, Connexions, local High Schools and Careers Officers, client company sites and other prominent locations.
- Sift and grade applications; suitable candidates are tested to measure aptitude and ability so the best are short-listed.
- The successful candidate details are submitted to our clients according to each client’s needs and an interview shortlist is agreed.
- Short-listed candidates have a second interview at the client company site where they present their case to become a Waterside Apprentice.
- Following interviews and future discussions with the client and Waterside staff, a place will be offered to a successful candidate
Our selection process can be viewed under The Assessment Criteria.
