Engineering Apprenticeships (Electrical | Mechanical | Technical Support)

WHAT IS AN ENGINEERING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN ROLE?

 An Engineer works as part of a team to provide engineering support to a plant operation. The production units within these multi-million pound companies run continuously 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and a considerable level of engineering support is always required to maintain the production equipment, improve efficiency and product quality.

Mechanical Maintenance Technicians carry out planned and emergency fault diagnosis and maintenance on mechanical equipment, restoring mechanical components to usable condition by repair, producing replacement components, assisting in the installation of mechanical equipment and carrying out quality inspections as well as preventative maintenance and fixing and maintaining various plant and machinery in a mechanical aspect.

Electrical Maintenance Technicians carry out planned and emergency fault diagnosis and maintenance, test and repair electronic equipment and circuits / repair P.L.C’s  and communications equipment / instrumentation and control equipment and carry out regular inspections as well as fixing, repairing and maintaining various plant and machinery in an electrical aspect.

A Technical Support Engineer provides support for all areas of the technical support function by a host of different people within a company including planners, estimators, quality controllers, inspectors, testers, technical buyers, contract engineers, technical authors, materials schedulers, applications engineers, stock controllers - not just technicians to work as a team member to develop, design and implement technical support systems or to complete specialty functions to provide support and service to develop, design and modify technical areas.  These areas include installation of technical equipment and set up, configuration and installation of plant and equipment involving planning, monitoring and checking development activities.
