The Assessment Criteria
Step 1 - Application Form Assessment
Initial selection is based on the information you give on the Application Form, therefore, it is important that you complete the application form fully, it is presentable and you give as much information as you can by highlighting any previous experiences that relate to the apprenticeship you are applying for, i.e. part time jobs, responsibilities, hobbies, clubs or projects to enhance your application.
Should you wish to apply for more than one of the vacancies available you may do so by ticking the appropriate boxes on the application form and indicate your order of preference.
Step 2 - Selection Tests (Aptitude Testing)
You may be invited to attend a range of aptitude tests to assess your abilities and understanding of Numerical, Verbal, Mechanical and Spatial Reasoning and Technical Understanding. If you are successful you may be selected for a first interview.
Step 3 - First Interview
If you are selected for a first interview you will be invited to attend an interview at Waterside. This relatively informal first interview provides you with an opportunity to discuss your application and possible career with members of our team. Make sure you come fully prepared for the interview and bring with you your National Record of Achievement, Certificates, References, Reports, Portfolio of Work and or any Project Work that may be of relevance to your application.
Step 4 - Final Interview and Site Visit at Sponsoring Company Site
If you are successful and invited to a final interview, you will be asked to attend the sponsoring company site, where you will be taken on a tour of the factory. You will need to prepare a 10 minute presentation including information on the sponsoring companies products, your reasons for applying, your personal qualities, your most proudest achievement and why you are interested in obtaining an apprenticeship with us. The panel of interviewers will consist of the sponsoring site and Waterside personnel. Up to five people can be on the interview panel. Full details will be given to you prior to the interview to help you fully prepare.
Step 5 - Conditional Offer
After careful consideration, if you are successful and are offered a Waterside Sponsored Apprenticeship, this conditional offer will be given subject to confirmation of GCSE results at Grades A - C, satisfactory references, and satisfactory pre-employment medical report. Waterside will confirm your offer in writing and invite you to your induction programme to commence your apprenticeship upon these conditions being satisfactory. A full Apprenticeship Agreement will be signed at a parents evening on commencement of your apprenticeship during October by you, Waterside, your parents and a representative from your sponsoring company.
Step 6 - References and Pre-employment Medical
Waterside will write out to referees given on your application form to confirm your character and suitability upon you accepting the conditional offer. A pre-employment medical will be arranged during which general health screening and drug screening will be covered. However, on health and safety grounds it is a requirement that if selected for the Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship you are able to differentiate between colours. All applicants will, therefore, be required to undergo an eye test for colour blindness during a pre-employment medical for this position.
Step 7 - Commence your Apprenticeship & Induction Programme
Upon satisfactory confirmation of references, medical and grades the candidate will start the Apprenticeship with Waterside Training Limited on a two week induction programme, which will consist of health and safety training, risk assessment, first aid, personal development, key skills initial assessments, team building and presentation skills including delivery of a small presentation.
