Saint-Gobain Industrial Ceramics (SGIC) is a worldwide market leader in ceramics solutions. The company manufactures a variety of Refractory and Engineered Ceramic materials for worldwide applications in metallurgical processing, high temperature processing, chemical, temperature and abrasion resistant applications.

The maintenance technician (multi-skilled) position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of Rainford business goals and objectives, with focus on continuous improvement and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) / operations as well as carrying out other activities such as; 

  • Achieve word class standard maintenance support for the plant through the implementation of the agreed maintenance department plan.
  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Perform maintenance tasks including, but not limited to electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities and complete planned maintenance forms.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to supervision.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • In conjunction with the Maintenance and Moulds Manager support the implementation and completion of appropriate WCM plans and projects.
  • Carry out maintenance and continual improvement of all existing plant equipment and services to the highest possible standard allowing the Company to safely achieve quality and performance targets, by preventative maintenance techniques and minimising breakdown downtime.
  • Ensure that fault finding systems are effectively utilised to determine the root cause of failures and identify sustaining actions to prevent their re-occurrence. Actions should be recorded on the breakdown analysis sheet.
  • Inform Maintenance Supervisor of materials required by the maintenance team, including spares requirements for all machinery.
  • Undertake any other maintenance function throughout the factory as required.
  • Proactive approach to plant improvements, making suggestions to enhance equipment and site performance.
  • Work in line with the companies’ safety, quality and environmental policies.

Waterside Training in partnership with Prinovis UK Limited, based at Liverpool International Business Park, Speke has two excellent opportunities for apprentices to join their Manufacturing Operations section of Prinovis UK Limited, offering 2 Electrical/Mechanical Multi Skilled Engineering Apprenticeships.

Prinovis is a passionate, experienced and innovative provider of print services. We have a proven track record in producing consistently high quality printing of magazines, brochures and catalogues. Speed and flexibility are at the heart of everything we do.

We specialize in the Gravure print service and can look after everything from printing and binding to finishing and polywrapping. Prinovis has production sites in Ahrensburg, Dresden and Nuremberg in Germany and Liverpool in the UK.

The Emerald Kalama Chemical Apprenticeship programme has two roles available in Manufacturing and Maintenance.
If you choose the Manufacturing role, you will be developing your skills and experience to the full range of production activities from raw materials handling to operating plant to final packaging and dispatch.
If you choose the Maintenance role, you will develop skills and experience in electrical and instrumentation as well as plant control systems and mechanical skills.
Initially day based, starting the day between 7am and 9.30am and finishing between 3.30pm and 6pm. In final year, hours will include shift work, working 6.30am-6.30pm or 6.30pm-6.30am. Hours are 38 per week or annualized to that amount if on shift.
Our roles all work outside in all weathers and the shift pattern does not suit all, working 4on-4off on a rota basis which will include nights and weekends.
We work on an ageing plant and sometimes it breaks down which can interrupt the plan you and your manager had for the day, you need to be able to cope with change to succeed with Emerald. We also work with some hazards; chemicals, heights and confined spaces. You will learn to use an FLT as part of your training and this is part of any production based role beyond your apprenticeship. The role of Technician is responsible for operating key pieces of equipment on the line . Carrying out product changeovers and regular quality and process control checks, completing all relevant paperwork. All tasks must be completed in a manner to achieve the safe, hygienic, efficient and best-cost manufacture of all designated products to the required quality, specification and quantity, being proactive towards Health & Safety within the Safe Systems of Work engaging with our continuous improvement agenda.   You will work within our quality parameters to ensure good quality output carrying out analytical tests during production and make any necessary adjustments to machine settings or products to meet agreed quality standards.

Waterside Training in partnership with NGF Europe Limited based at Lea Green, St Helens has a fantastic opportunity for an apprentice to join their Engineering department as a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice.  NGF Europe Limited specialises in the manufacture of high performance glass fibre cords and is at the forefront in manufacturing specialised glass cord products, with a worldwide customer base. Glass Cord is used mainly in the automotive industry for the reinforcement of synchronous drive belts.  The four year mechanical engineering apprenticeship will initially cover broad based training in Electrical and  Mechanical skills at Waterside Training in St Helens with years 2, 3 and 4 working on plant at Lea Green alongside qualified technicians tackling “real life” maintenance activities whilst continuing to attend college day release up to HNC.

Working in an environment whereby safety is of paramount importance, glass fibre cords are produced via glass fibre forming, plying and coating processes.  The three year manufacturing apprenticeship will initially cover broad based training in Electrical and Mechanical skills at Waterside Training in St Helens with years 2 and 3 working on plant at Lea Green alongside qualified technicians tackling “real life” production activities whilst continuing to attend college day release up to HNC.    You will be trained in all aspects of glass cord manufacturing processes, gaining skills in the setting, operating and controlling of process plant/machinery; adhering with standard operating procedures and ensuring high quality/process manufacturing efficiency tandards are sustained and improved. This will involve working in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures in a manufacturing environment whereby health and safety standards are paramount. Training will also include the inspection, testing and recording of measurements on samples of materials, products and processes so as to maintain statistical process control and assure compliance with specifications. You will work in accordance with a 5 set continuous shift pattern and work towards continuous improvement, adopting principles of TPM and 5S.

Founded in 1981, Aimia manufacture and supply dry powder products such as coffee, hot chocolate and soups for sale into the vending industry across retail, food service, vending, cash & carry both in the UK and export markets specialising in fields of beverages and foods, with specific expertise and capabilities in dry powder blending and packing. The four year engineering apprenticeship will initially cover broad based training in Electrical and Mechanical skills at Waterside Training in St Helens with years 2,3 and 4 working on plant at Haydock alongside qualified craftsmen tackling “real life” activities whilst continuing to attend college day release up to HNC.  The role as an engineering apprentice is primarily to gain personal knowledge, experience and competence across the full breadth of engineering related activities. This enables the role holder to grow with the business to become a fully qualified, Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer.   
As an Engineer you will carry out tasks in a safe manner complying with Health and Safety legislation to support the engineering team to carry out planned maintenance activities and corrective actions of the manufacturing plant and equipment in accordance with food hygiene guidelines and regulations. You will participate with other production staff to meet site KPI’s to meet and exceed production line efficiencies and targets along with improving the key performance measures of the production process to drive forward continuous improvement to ensure finish products complies with product specification working to best practice methods ensuring the engineering department is kept clean and tidy and spare parts and stock control are kept up to date.
